Description
This position provides support to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management in providing financial aid policy, FAFSA completion, and aid award guidance to all SUNY campuses. The Assistant Vice Chancellor works collaboratively with System Administration staff from a variety of disciplines to ensure financial aid topics and concerns are appropriately considered. Represents Financial Aid in the absence of the Associate Vice Chancellor.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for all things financial aid related as it impacts SUNY.
- Works proactively with System Administration and campuses to address financial aid challenges, including FAFSA completion and aid awarding.
- Regular and ongoing interaction with all campuses, giving equal attention to State-operated campuses and community colleges to provide policy guidance on all federal and state financial aid programs, topics and concerns.
- Collaborate with numerous System Administration offices, including Budget, Government Relations, Community Services, Audit, Open SUNY, SUNY Online, Institutional Research (IR), Institutional Technology (IT), Internal Control and Counsel's Office.
- Represent System Administration as needed at local, state and national conferences including Federal Student Aid (SFA), SUNYFAP and NYSFAAA.
- Supervise Aid for Part Time Study fund reallocations, necessary scholarship related activities, financial aid related correspondence with external parties, and SUSTA appropriations in conjunction with the Project Manager for Enrollment Management and appropriate offices.
- Collaborate with University Audit to identify potential risk for campuses with regard to program compliance. Use information from the federal single audit, program reviews and campus inquiries to assess needs. Provide guidance and policy training support as necessary.
- Collaborate with IR and IT to identify needed data parameters for state and federal financial aid programs, enrollment, degree and demographic student information. Provides guidance, to IR and IT staff, regarding State and federal financial aid programs statutory and regulatory requirements. In conjunction with Enrollment Data Management team, analyze data and provide findings to the Enrollment Management SUNY Leadership as needed. Work with IR to produce requested financial aid spreadsheets for Executive Leadership team.
- Liaison to HESC regarding New York State (NYS) administered financial aid policy and processing issues. Provide feedback and recommendations regarding NYS administered financial aid programs.
- Serve as a member of any cross-collaborative efforts with other state agencies to discuss and provide feedback on proposed processing, regulatory and/or legislative changes to all NYS financial aid programs.
- Facilitates meetings and discussions to ensure SUNY is in compliance with the federally mandated requirements. Provides regular and ongoing support to IR and campus staff during the annual review and implementation process.
- Coordinator and chair of the SUNY Financial Aid Plan committee, gather feedback and propose needed modifications based on regulatory and/or legislative changes. Facilitate committee activities and draft updated financial aid plan for campus use. Provide modified plan, provide guidance to financial aid directors and direction to IT staff.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director of Enrollment Operations and the Office of EOP on the work of the Enrollment Advisors in the Office of Enrollment Operations, who will be tasked with admissions document review, EOP financial verification, and Financial Aid verification. In conjunction with the Senior Director for Enrollment Operations, responsible for strategic and tactical design and oversight of operational processes for the same.
- Liaise with any System financial aid entities/shared service models.
- Lead activities of Student Financial Aid Services.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial aid administration.
- Experience in reading and applying regulatory and legislative language.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Experience in developing technical training materials.
- Experience in conducting training using all media including webinars.
- Ability to handle multiple projects.
