Description
Title: Payroll Tax AccountantVP Area: Controller's Office
Department: Controller's Office

Job Purpose:
Responsible for compliance with federal and state payroll tax requirements while maintaining accurate payroll-related general ledger balances through reconciliations and reporting. Support audits with thorough documentation, and collaborate across departments to resolve payroll related issues.
Essential Functions:
- 35% - Payroll Tax Compliance and Filing
- Ensure timely and accurate payment, and filing of all federal, state, and local payroll tax, including quarterly (e.g., Form 941) and annual filings (e.g., W-2s), while staying current on changes in tax laws and resolving related issues. - (Essential)
- 30% - Reconciliation and Reporting
- Perform semi-monthly and quarterly payroll-related general ledger reconciliations, review and reconcile year-end tax forms, and ensure accurate recording of payroll tax liabilities, deductions, and adjustments, including Garnishments, 403(b) review, and reconciliation of vendor payments. - (Essential)
- 20% - Audit Preparation and Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate payroll tax records and support internal/external audits by preparing and providing necessary documentation; audit and reconcile all retirement deductions and payroll tax data. - (Essential)
- 15% - Cross-Functional Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to ensure accurate payroll processing; respond to employee payroll tax inquiries and ensure correct application of tax changes based on employee status. - (Essential)

Educational Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience
Years of Related Experience Requirement:
3 years
In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

- Certified Payroll Professional
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- Higher Education Experience
- Banner Software Experience
- Nonprofit Accounting Experience
- Multi-state Payroll Experience

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 2 days/week

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $33.65 to $35.58
Pay Range:
Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): $27.27
Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): $34.08
Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): $40.90
