Role Overview:
The Senior Accountant performs a variety of accounting duties in support of the overall financial health of the Credit Union. In this role, the Senior Accountant will post journal entries, reconcile accounts, identify and research errors and outages as well as performing a host of other accounting functions under minimal supervision by the CFO. Some of the essential duties and responsibilities are outlined below:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Represent the Credit Union in a courteous and professional manner while providing excellent service to both internal employees and external member/customers.
- Responsible for timely processing, reconciling and researching postings to the accounting system and assigned clearing accounts.
- Ensure financial and accounting records adhere to sound accounting principles and practices.
- Maintain financial records and ensure financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Perform daily accounts payable activities throughout the entire AP cycle (i.e., process invoices, issue payments, research issues with vendors, etc...).
- Prepare and post month-end closing activities (i.e., prepaids, accruals, investments, etc...).
- Maintain records of fixed assets and prepaids (i.e., posting acquisitions, depreciation and dispositions according to policy, etc...).
- Assist with periodic regulatory reporting (i.e., the quarterly 5300 Call Report, various IRS tax reporting, etc...).
- Provide internal audit, financial audit and regulatory exam support as needed.
- Provide accounting support for operations to include researching and resolving frontline balancing discrepancies when unable to to be resolved at the branch level.
- Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) regulations when performing all job requirements and stay abreast of updates/requirements of BSA/AFAC/CIP through completion of training courses assigned.
- Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required/Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications are strongly preferred. If you meet some, but not all, you are still encouraged to apply; we value employees with a willingness to learn.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- CPA or progress toward obtaining preferred.
- 2+ years of accounting and/or financial experience within a financial institution, preferably within a credit union or bank.
- Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education requirement.
- Attention to detail and advanced math skills.
- Must possess the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
- Ability to communicate with members and others at all levels of the Credit Union, in both written and verbal formats
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
