Position Description:
The Senior Accountant reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Finance Committee and the Lumity Team, and supervises one staff member. They are an empowered, organized professional leading the financial operations and grant financial management activities of a dynamic organization. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance
Formulate and recommend financial policies and procedures to help guide the short and long term financial operating strategy of the organization, focusing on internal controls and industry best practices.
Work with staff to prepare the organization’s annual operating budget by program area.
Forecast and manage cash flow for current and future periods to ensure organizational stability, and research and recommend solutions for any projected challenges.
Manage banking, credit and investment accounts and recommend changes as needed.
Work with staff to evaluate the financial impact of new or changed program activities and provide recommendations and feedback affecting implementation.
Supervise all accounting duties including client invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, disbursements, reconciliations, periodic closes, journal entries and reporting for multiple locations/companies.
Prepare, analyze and disseminate all financial statements and reports inclusive of budgets, forecasts, and program and funder reporting, and works closely with the Finance Committee.
Grant Management
Assist in the creation of grant application budgets and line-item modifications of existing budgets.
Perform specific accounting, tracking and compliance activities for all grants including corporate, foundation, state, federal and city funding.
Prepare and file periodic grant reports and supporting documentation in a timely manner.
Verify and process stipend payments for participants in grant-funded programs.
Serve as lead financial liaison with Government Agencies regarding all government funding.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, GATA, 2 CFR Part 200 and any other specific Government Agency grant programs guidelines.
Lead preparation for year-end audit (GAAS, GAGAS or A-133) and serve as liaison to auditors.
Administration
Administer business insurance policies including annual renewals reviews and applications.
Maintain and renew all local, State and Federal licenses, registration, and certifications for Lumity as a going concern.
Manage the orderly electronic filling of all job-related documents on SharePoint server.
HR
Supervise maintenance of payroll system/records and execution of biweekly payrolls, monitor annual reporting, and administer ancillary programs including paid time off and flexible spending account systems.
Perform all employee benefit program activities including ongoing administration, renewals, new benefit research, employee enrollments and terminations, claims and integration with payroll.
Manage unemployment and workers compensation insurance policies and related claims.
Ensure ongoing compliance with all local, State and Federal laws for out-of-state remote workers.
Assist with staffing including background checks, new employee orientation, and completing processes for terminated employees.
Fundraising
Manage the financial aspects of the organization’s fundraising events
Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES LEVELS
Accounting
o Three years or more of full-charge accounting experience. Nonprofit accounting and grant management experience preferred but not required.
Technology Skills
o Advanced level proficiency with Quickbooks Online and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint; Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems quickly.
Detail/Accuracy
o Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; Monitor own work to ensure quality, organization and timely execution; Maintain strong attention to detail even while multitasking.
Communication
o Clearly and persuasively communicate, listen and seek clarifications; Participate in meetings, write clearly and informatively; Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication in all activities.

Work Schedule/Location
Full-time, 37.5 hours/5 days a week Monday-Friday with occasional evening or weekend work. This position is a combination of remote work and working out of our main office, 1132 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago.

Compensation
Salaried, commensurate with experience with a range of $80,000 – $95,000.
